Public utilities are making the switch to greener practices,
and in turn, doing their part to contribute to a greener environment.
Utility companies across the country are yielding to
customer requests for online billing and payment capabilities and in turn,
doing their part by participating in greener practices. Some of these public utility companies have
taken their “greenness” one step further and begun to donate $1 to
environmental alliances who plant trees for each new customer who signs up to
receive their bills electronically . A
Javelin Strategy and Research study actually estimates that each year, 16.5 million trees
could be saved if each American household paid its bills online.
Just think, not only are the utility companies saving trees
by not using as much paper, but they’re also going a step further by
contributing money to organizations that will make our world a more vibrant and
sustainable place. And, coincidentally, their
customers benefit by having the added convenience of viewing and paying their
bills online securely anywhere, anytime. Talk about a great switch!
