[ Day 25 ] - Credit Card Number Security
Some business partners and I were
wrapping up a long dinner meeting at one of our favorite restaurants in
town. The check came and my colleague, Kyle, gave the waitress his
credit card. When she returned Kyle noticed that his entire credit card
number was printed on the receipt; both the merchant and his copy!
It seem pretty ridiculous to me on two counts:

What is the wait staff and management thinking? Who wouldn't notice
this obvious security violation and not do something about it?

What is the credit card machine vendor thinking? What purpose could
printing the entire card number serve and why is this even an option on
the device?
The risks of identity theft and credit card fraud
have saturated every media outlet from the local church bulletin to
Time Magazine for the last 10 years. Can anyone explain how it skipped
this one venue?
