[ Day 23 ] - My Own Personal Paperless Revolution Wednesday, January 30, 2008 (85 reads)
As a business owner and generally a man-on-the-go, ditching paper has allowed me to enjoy a freedom that is hard to express unless you’ve been there. Seriously, I can’t express how chaotic my time and schedule was prior to my own personal Paperless Revolution. Juggling multiple business commitments AND a home life was stressful to say the least. Never remembering which Post-It I wrote a commitment or appointment on, or where I put my notebook was also usually an interesting scramble and lead to more than one costly mistake.

[ Day 19 ] - UNREAL Results! Saturday, January 26, 2008 (84 reads)
As I’ve mentioned before, most of my clients are healthcare
practices. Most of them aren’t really
technically minded, in the IT sense, and pretty much think of the hardware and
software in their offices as a necessary evil. My job revolves around conveying the benefits of technology to people
who are focused on making their patients well. As you can imagine, they’re busy and typically have a lot on their minds
which occasionally makes getting through to them tough. They like paper processes because it’s what
they’re used to. What they don’t often
realize, however, is that small changes and going paperless can mean HUGE
savings!

[ Day 18 ] - Others' Mistakes that COST Us. Friday, January 25, 2008 (72 reads)
The other day I got a call from my landlord. He mentioned that he had received a water bill which was sent to him instead of me, and that it was late.
I called the city and told them they sent the bill to the wrong place and found out that I had to pay it within a few days or that my water would be turned off...

[ Day 13 ] - What are you Thinking? Sunday, January 20, 2008 (73 reads)
Couple questions for you? How many times have you, yourself, personally printed off a form and faxed it somewhere in order to buy something? One, two, twenty times, two hundred times?
What, do you suppose happens to those faxed forms, after you send them in? Are they sitting around in a back room in a box? Are they at least in a file cabinet? Are they thrown away? Are they shredded?

So, I figured that I could continue to berate all of the businesses that I’ve run into within the last few months who have asked for my credit card number, but eh, maybe everyone is sick of listening to me complain. In that vein, here’s a little story that gave me some faith in humanity and in forward thinking businesses:

[ Day 7 ] - Fighting Anger with Paper?!?!?! Not in THIS neck of the woods! Monday, January 14, 2008 (92 reads)
Now, mind you, I'm not from around here, but I can’t remember the last time a business actually asked me to print off a piece of paper and write in my information and fax it back to them. Not to mention the last time I was actually expected to fax my credit card information anywhere. That’s just crazy.

Have you ever had that sinking feeling after you purchased something that you had to send away for? Maybe you weren't sure if you really needed it, or maybe you couldn't really afford it. What if though, the reason you had that sinking feeling is because you weren't sure who was on the other end of the fax machine, receiving your credit card number?

[ Day 5 ] - Don't Fear! Electronic Transactions are Here! Saturday, January 12, 2008 (100 reads)
When I go to a department store and buy a shirt with my credit card, I'm never worried, because I'm used to doing so.
Likewise, when I go to a restaurant and give them my credit card I feel fine.
We all know that these are traditionally safe places to use our credit cards. We know there are risks, but we have assurances from our credit card brands that they will reimburse us if they determine a transaction is fraudulent, or at least we accept the risks with some understanding that fraud is probably not going to hit us.

Why working online will save me this winter Thursday, January 03, 2008 (85 reads)
It’s snowing in Michigan-- a LOT. And I have a nasty 50 mile commute each way to work, in a convertible. Ideal car for the northern Midwest? Probably not, but hey—a girl’s gotta have some fun. What was I thinking? How will I get to work in a reasonable amount of time, and safely!? But as Thomas Dolby said, “once again, technology comes to the rescue and allows me to do things like this”.

Even I resisted going paperless for a LONG time... Wednesday, January 02, 2008 (88 reads)
I had all of the typical fears of using the internet to do all of my banking. I was afraid of someone having access to my information and stealing my money, my social security number and my identity. I didn’t want someone else ruining my credit and my life. So I didn’t have my paychecks direct deposited, I refused to deposit checks via an ATM, and I didn’t want to pay any of my bills online. I spent HOURS monthly, writing out checks, mailing them, balancing my checkbook against my paper statements from the bank.
